Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston is the first celebrity to be featured on this page and he has earned that honor after having been issued a civil citation from sheriff’s deputies after he walked out of a Publix supermarket without having paid for $32 worth of crawfish and crab legs.
After Publix employees spotted Winston leaving the store without paying on Tuesday night, they called deputies who went to Winston’s apartment. Winston was “very cooperative” and said that he forgot to pay for the food.
He was issued a civil citation that will require him to complete at least 20 hours of community service. If he completes the community service, no criminal charges will be filed. It is also expected that he will have to pay restitution for the stolen seafood.
Winston was suspended from the Florida State baseball team. He is a pitcher who is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 16 appearances this season.
